The Cultural Controversy of Michael B. Jordan’s J’OUVERT Trademark

I have been published in the New York State Bar Association’s News Center! I wrote about the controversy surrounding Michael B. Jordan’s J’OUVERT trademark, which occurred earlier this year. The article will also appear in upcoming editions of the NYSBA Journal and the NYSBA EASL Section’s Journal.

As a person who is of Caribbean descent, who speaks French and Creole (the languages relevant to this controversy), and who is a trademark attorney, I analyzed the story from both a cultural and legal perspective.
